Home Chef is kind of fun!

As mentioned before, my sister put in my email so I could get $30 off a trial of Home Chef. I knew she and her hubby were having a good time trying out Blue Apron and liked the looks of this one. I liked the food options too and decided to try it. The box showed up via FedEx on Friday (didn't have to be there) and it's packed full of ice gel packs so everything stays cool enough until you get home.

Tonight I made the Thai Fish Cakes (recipe here) and boy they turned out so good! Since the recipes are intended for two people, I have the leftovers in the fridge for tomorrow and it is portioned nicely. Pictures behind the cut:

Yep, you get a binder to put the recipe cards in - cool!

All laid out and ready to roll!

The finished product! I even did the silly smear of sauce like you see at the fancy frou frou places. The only changes I made to the recipe is to use about 1/3 of the chili powder (it did mention "to taste") and I'm glad I did since it also came with siracha to add and if I added all the spice powder, it would've been too much. Also, there was a LOT of slaw in that pouch and 3/4 of a lime and some olive oil didn't feel like quite enough to dress the slaw so I tossed in a couple of slugs of Trader Joe's Asian Peanut Dressing.

I'm quite pleased with the results and really like how things are all right there for you. I can also see myself getting the ingredients to make it on my own sometime. One thing that I hadn't bought before and wondered about was the fish sauce that was added to the cakes. I'll have to pick some of that up at the Asian grocery.

I'm looking forward to the next recipe which I might post for fun. My sister even called me when I posted these to FB to say how yummy it looks and how much fun it is. If you're considering it, let me know for a $30 off promo.

It's great that it is encouraging to branch out! I hope it continues! Are you going to get another one?

Yep! I have two more recipes to make this week (will post pics!) and the meals for next week were finalized on Friday at noon.
Tonight I am making the Roasted Vegetable Tartine which I'll have tonight and the leftovers for either lunch or dinner tomorrow.
I think Wednesday I'll prepare the Angry Dragon Noodles.

Next week's menu are these things:
Spaghetti and Ricotta Meatballs. I think I'll also sautee some mushrooms in there and by the list of ingredients, that should actually make three meals rather than two
Avocado and Tofu Sushi Bowl - really out of my comfort zone since I've only experimented with tofu a few times.
Chili-Lime Steelhead Trout. Really looking forward to this one and trying chayotes will be new for me.

You can start picking your menu for several weeks ahead. I already have it set up to not ship me anything for when I'm going to be on my trip to San Antonio. Also, for Easter, they have a more expensive meal that I'm planning on ordering since Emily may be coming over for the holiday - Grilled Lamb Chops

I have it set up for three meals (six servings) per week right now. I want to also start eating down the food I already have in my fridge/freezer/pantry so I should start making plans on how to use stuff up. If I try another service, I'd want to go with Terra's Kitchen and if I do, I might even go with their weight loss plan because you know it's easier to get on a healthy diet if the food tastes good.

Sounds yummy. As long as you feel it's worth the cost, I say go for it! It was a bit too pricy for me (I would have had to have gone with the four serving meal). Can't wait to see your other creations. :D
