Memories of the 1984 Summer Olympics

Specifically the women's marathon - the first one. I watched SO much of the Olympics that summer. Even up in the middle of the night watching stuff like boxing that I wasn't particularly interested in. I remember this moment, though. Sure, I remember the winner, Joan Benoit, but this person that didn't win was true inspiration.

I remember the crowd being so supportive, standing and cheering her on as she was determined to finish the marathon unassisted.

Thanks for the random suggestion, YouTube. That was a good memory to watch on my lunch break

It is a good one to remind us that we area stronger than we ever believe we can be.

It is. I remember in that year and I think the next Summer and one of the Winter Olympics that they made a point of highlighting some of the people that came in last and how supportive the crowds were to the athletes that didn't have a chance of winning gold but were still thrilled to be there. I wish they'd do more of that.
