Received a message from ancestry.com just a few moments ago - it started with this
Hi Diane, my name is Scott and Gayle and I match as distant cousins on 2 segments. Is Gayle your mom or daughter? reason I ask is if your Mom then maybe we would match as well or just dont share enough DNA to appear on the radar screen, If daughter, then my match is prob on your husbands side.

Betcha he didn't expect me to start off with this:
Hi Scott,
Actually Gayle is my father.

The message ended with the tagline "Scott" hence why I'm saying "he didn't expect me" though hey, maybe Scott is female? LOL

Oh and in case you're wondering, their test and my Dad's test was only like 13 centimorgans which is barely a match. Clearly I just didn't get enough for ancestry.com to recognize them as being related to me. I asked if they took a 23andme or a familytreedna test since I've taken those and there is a person or two that I show as connected to them on those sites but not on ancestry. I think ancestry only assumes family out to 8th cousins anyway.

I've never heard of Gayle as a male name - that's cool!

I have met a female Kevin though - that one confuses everyone!

The male version is typically spelled "Gail" and yeah, it's still pretty rare.

A female Kevin? Now THAT is new!

For a second I was going to say I know a male Gayle but no his name is Gill. I do know a female Scott, though she goes by Scottie. Her given name is Scotland.

Who was that one football player from the 1960s Chicago Bears? He played with the late Brian Piccolo?

Oops, it was Gale Sayers (just answered my own question.) *blush*

Many times the male version is spelled "Gale" but my dad had to buck that trend lol
