I rolled my eyes at this story that Weight Watchers really wants to let you know that it's not just a diet company -- so much so that it's changing its name to WW. Yeah, no one will EVER know. Hey, why don't they team up with KFC? Because no one has a clue what that acronym stands for..something, something, chicken, I think. Chicken is healthy! Go team!

Going to be dragging today. Didn't sleep well last night and the kitties picked up on that and were little lunatics. Also concerned that JonJon is having wheezing fits again. He had two this morning. Poor dude. They sound wet so if he doesn't fight it off soon, I'll have to take him in for probably another antibiotic shot since it helped a couple of months ago.

Got an interesting email yesterday talking about commemorating the 100th anniversary of something called the "Morgan Explosion" which I had never heard of and it killed 100 people and injured hundreds more and destroyed towns in New Jersey back in 1918. When I looked it up, holy moley! Things you don't learn about in history class. Wiki page has plenty of external links to news sites and a good sum up. I thought it interesting that they say that it was "generally believed to be an accident" and I wondered why until I linked over to an incident two years prior that I also had never heard of called the Black Tom explosion. The Black Tom one was actually sabotage of munitions on US soil by Germans before the US entered WWI. The explosions actually damaged the Statue of Liberty. I have to wonder...instead of recycling the same old ideas, why don't they make movies about this kind of stuff to teach us about real history?

Ok, back to work. Need to clean up and submit a project to the feds so our research folks can continue to create a webtool to protect forests.

Yes there’s also the related Zimmerman Telegram incident which nobody in America as ever heard of.

Basically prior to WW1 the Germans tried to make a deal with Mexico whereby Mexico would reclaim Texas and other US states with the help of the Germans. I’d link that to the explosion and make it into one movie.

It reminds me of how we learned the same old crap every year and it's no surprise that I wasn't all that interested in history then. Because I didn't KNOW about all of this crazy stuff going on.

Heck, that could be a miniseries or a whole TV show of all these incidents.

Ah, not too strange. I'm guessing that even Oprah's professed love for bread wasn't upping their numbers so they're trying to rebrand to make more money. By the article, they're going to start with some meditation and such.

I'm hoping you got some sleep after all that!

Wow...that's crazy about your friend. How awful for them!

LOL Well, I'm the gatekeeper for other people's research projects. And right now it's on hold because they can't copyread for squat. There's a mostly blank page with someone's name and "get bio" on it. Well, dude, where's the bio? Need that to submit the project to USDA!

but it is a dieting company... sigh...

Shhhh! Be vewwy vewwy quiet!

That and at least "KFC" is something that people were saying for years before they rebranded. How do they expect people to say "WW"? It doesn't roll off the tongue. Are you supposed to pronounce it "double-u, double-u" or "wuh-wuh" or "double-u squared"? It's stupid. And if they're broadening their message, why not just make the modification and call it "Wellness Watchers" or something?

Someone in their advertising department needs canned.

Sigh... I just don't get it. Or the need to change it.

It's always the money. Especially after their Oprah investment didn't pay off.

Eh, I've never had the urge to join Weight Watchers. It's annoying enough to track calories, to have to take those and convert them into "points" would make me completely neurotic.

I was on it for about a year and lost 65 pounds... sadly, it all came back and brought guests. The problem is that you have to make the change lifelong and that doesn't always work.

Exactly. I had the same experience but from counting calories and such. I am hoping to go on the slow, gradual and hopefully sustainable crawl back to a healthier weight.

I've just given up fighting the inevitable and I'm just eating right and exercising as much as I can.

I have no illusions that I'll even ever get out of the "obese" category and I don't expect to at my age and with my issues.

But I need to improve both eating (damned nibbles) and exercising (still afraid to go to the gym but I have to start) or I'm doomed to my back going out every few months and my knees and hips getting worse. I limp every day now and it's worrying me.

I do the best that I can. These days, I'm more focused on being healthy than prescribing to someone else's image of what is or isn't beautiful - women these days are under so much pressure to be everything they aren't rather than being allowed to celebrate the women they are.

OMG, really Weight Watchers? Meh.

Dude...right?? History can be SO EXCITING!!
