The funny things that they can test for

So I glanced over at my 23andme data at lunchtime to see if there have been any recent changes. Nothing in the ancestry and no new potential diseases, but I spotted a few of their "fluffy" tests that were interesting. Evidently I have the marker where I may not like cilantro but I love cilantro? If I have the gene that makes it taste like soap, maybe I like the taste of soap? lol

Another one I found interesting that they could test for is that I'm not as likely to have a fear of heights. This is true, actually. Of all the many, many, MANY things that trigger my anxiety, heights isn't really one of them. I've been at the top of the CN tower, the Empire State Building, etc. and all I thought looking down was "oh, cool."

Well thar you go.

Eh, it's finding patterns in DNA. That the majority of people that have some marker also have taste aversion to cilantro. My buddy Emily hates it, she gets the "soap" taste that people with the gene have. Science, yo.

(To be fair at frivolous-sounding studies, my researchers studied the "five second rule")

I can get pinpointing a taste thing but the heights thing is a little more odd. This is their justification, which doesn't seem to have a scientific study attributed to it:
Fear of heights
Some scientists believe that people with an extreme fear of heights may depend more heavily on visual input for balance control than other people who can use physical sensations as well as visual input to keep their balance. As a result, they may feel especially unstable when standing at an elevation, triggering a fear response.

The really funny one is the genetic test as to whether you can smell asparagus pee (note: I can)

Omg *LOL*!! I believe I can also smell the asparagus pee ;) "Yaay"...

That is so weird/interesting about heights o_O I am petrified of heights, which is bizarre because I actually have good balance...but I guess it's more complicated than just that!

These are such random facts I love this *lol* keep them coming! :D

I haven’t looked at my 23andMe results in awhile, but I got an email the day they were updated so I should go check in.

I can smell asparagus pee.

I swear one of those weird things it had for me that I was more likely to be a lifeguard! I’m not a strong swimmer. So weird.
