Stuff and nonsense

Last year I purchased a few of my coworkers gifts. Since I didn't feel like brainstorming to get them each individual gifts, I took advantage of Cyber Monday and ordered a single-serve espresso/coffee maker for the office. Ok, I'll admit it, it's mostly for my benefit BUT I'm hoping it'll also take care of an annoying issue. When we were one floor down and I purchased a cheap drip 12 cup coffee maker, I'd make a little extra each time in case anyone wanted some. Some people were decent about it but the guys downstairs were...well...assholes. They started to come to expect me to make coffee and would show up with mugs. However, neither one of them would buy coffee grounds or other supplies or even make the coffee. One day I got particularly pissed off because I was busy and they came up with mugs and I said "Hey, could you get a pot started?" and those jerks just LEFT. Well that's when I said the hell with that and stopped making coffee for a while. I'd just drink it at home or buy it on the way to work.

We moved our offices another floor up and I started making coffee again in the maker in my office. My coworker Joe is excellent and asks every time he takes a cup as well as he's bought bags of ground coffee now and then. But cue one of the guys downstairs being a dickwad again. I make coffee early - many times before 8am - and I don't drink it in the afternoon. On Halloween he emailed and wanted me to make a pot of coffee or he wouldn't come up and show me his costume. Well eff you, bud. I said I wasn't making it. He's done that again since and I just e-shrug and say I'm not making it.

The espresso pot will have benefits. I'm buying enough pods to last a short while. I'll also put out a box next to the maker for donations for supplies. I fully expect no one to donate but that's just fine with me. Because instead of it being a community pot of coffee, these are single-serve and once the holiday gift runs out, I'll buy MYSELF pods and keep them in a drawer. Then when the stingy boys pout that there are no pods, I'll point out that there were no donations and hence, too damned bad. I also figured the espresso maker will be handy in helping me eventually stop putting cream in the coffee. I have a little IKEA frother and non-dairy milks work pretty well with that and espresso. That'll shave off calories yet get me a morning caffeine fix. Win-win.

Ah, while typing this I got the blood tests from the new doc:

Total cholesterol and LDL are slightly high. HDL slightly low. A1C is at 6.0 which is prediabetic but it's been at that level and not gone beyond 6.0 even when I was taking metformin. So that's pretty much nothing. Vitamin D is "low" and I use quotes because 27 is fine. They keep upping the level they want people at and as long as it's above 25 and I'm taking my daily supplement, I'm not worrying about it. Also, evidently my platelets are slightly high? That's a new one. Recommendations are these:
1. Continue to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.Well Veganuary should rock this.
2. Follow a diet reduced in saturated fats (animal fats except for fish). See #1. I'm wondering what my cholesterol will be if I keep things up past January?
3. Reduce carbohydrates in your diet with the goal of reducing weight. Phooey. Will work on that.
4. Engage in exercise as tolerated. Gotta try to get to the gym this week and/or find a PT I'm comfortable with
5. Continue your current medications. Bah, fiiiine. Stupid BP meds
6. Return in 6 months, at which time we will recheck blood work. Check.

In more frivolous goings-on, I went to see the next Fantastic Beasts movie yesterday. No spoilers but I wasn't pleased whatsoever with the way it's going and I don't even know if I'll bother with future movies. However, since we're going to a Harry Potter-based magic exhibit next month, I'm thinking I'll try to do a reread of the HP series. I want that vibe back and I'll just ignore the current stuff. If anyone wants to join me in reading, lemme know!

Oh and even more frivolously, I've done a smidge of holiday decorating in the office. Two things are llama-themed. hehehe

Nice move on the coffee maker solution! Well played. And I hope that drawer is secure--otherwise just throw a handful in your purse/bag whatever o_O

I wanna see the llama decorations!! :D

Oooo, D is for Diabolical!

It sounds like you're on the right track healthwise.

I'm supposed to see Crimes of Grindlewald with the sis but the uneven reviews have me kind of bummed. Maybe we'll have a few drinkies beforehand.

Have a lot of drinkies. It drags, has too many unnecessary side plots, fucks with canon and was underwhelming like whoa. I didn't bother to stay to see whether it had aftercredits because I didn't really care.

Oh and it's 2 hours and 14 minutes long. Go pee during the previews. LOL

The one thing that did amuse me is that Newt's brother looks like a grown up Eddie Haskell

Good luck with the pod maker. I hope it is the answers to your frustration (and *ugh!* about the guys downstairs. Why don't they just get their own???

I llike your llama.

I swear I thought they had a Keurig. It may have stopped working and the guy that's the most recent butthole is actually subscribed to the "coffee club" on the first floor and can drink as much of their Keurig coffee as they want. I think he comes up here because fresh brewed is better (I don't like Keurig, it tastes like plastic) and so he doesn't have to talk to the ladies in that office. Dude needs to drink less caffeine anyway. lol

Thanks! Target has the llama stuff in their cheap section up front. Coworker now wants a llama pinata. She thought I'd object but pfft, I'm all for it!

I don't drink enjoy coffee to make one of those things make sense. I'm pretty easy going with my Mr. Coffee. I also don't drink coffee after nine in the morning, and no one here drinks it during the day, so having something here is silly.

I will have to look for them the next time I go in.
