Secret Santa and Mystery Family

Last week the AA down the hall did this to me so that I'd sign up for her "Snowball fight"

I had originally NO interest because it seemed like such a mess. You'd get little gifts and try to sneak them on the person's desk somewhere on whatever floor they work and you'd have to do it for FIVE days in a row? Yeah, considering that would have started this week - my week from hell - that wasn't happening. I don't have time to stalk someone on a daily basis with all that's going on. But she asked if she changed the rules if we'd participate so I said yes. Now it's more of a simple Secret Santa where you get one gift (around the $20 mark) and give it to them this coming Tuesday at the Holiday Dessert Party (which I wasn't going to participate in that either but well...guess I'm in for a penny in for several pounds).

I drew the name of the person I'm buying for and I'm tickled pink. Her name is Nicole and she works in the business office. To be honest, I have no clue how this would have worked with the AA's original plan since due to the construction, the business office people work in a building a block away. Anyhoo, I like Nicole. She's a total sweetie and according to the bits of information they fill out, she likes almonds and tiramisu and trying new restaurants and exotic foods. I can TOTALLY work with this. I'm going to go over to World Market this weekend and have a heyday shopping. They have a tiramisu kit and exotic foods? Oh please, I'll have to control myself! Also, if it's not too warm this weekend, I may even make a homemade batch of rosemary-maple almonds and package them up all pretty. Considering that Emily and I don't do anything all that fancy if we swap anything (you'd better not get any ideas veritasema!), it'll also be fun to wrap the gift for this all fancy and pretty. For something I wasn't wanting to participate in originally, I'm looking very forward to it now. That afternoon is going to be pretty good because the Executive Dean is finally doing something nice for us and is having folks come from recreation and we can get ten minute chair massages. (Mine's set up for 1pm)

Now for the "mystery family" part of the title. Mom and Dad called and out of the blue they received a whole bunch of turn-of-the-Century (as in 19th to 20th) photos of Mom's family. I have these people on the tree after doing lots of invesigating but I've never seen what they look like. Mom and Dad didn't know how to show them to us so I'm having them mail the photos to me and I'll scan them. So if they come soon, I'll be spamming y'all with oldey timey pictures!

Ok, back to servitude here. Today's been slightly less stressful. Or more, I've not been in a mood to take any shit today and so am not.

That's so cool about these photos. I should visit my aunt Joyce and see what she has sometime.

Does your mom know who gave her the photos or is that part of the mystery? I love old photos.

Oh yeah, they were sent to her by a cousin she talks to who was also the one that told Mom that she recently found out that Mom's sister Pat was homeless for a while.

The parents sent the pictures on Friday so I'm hoping they show up in my mailbox at home today. I'm SO curious!
