Hair and meals (but not IN them)

By popular choice, I'll be getting my hair pixied. I was going to get it done this weekend but the woman I go to wasn't working. I need to call today and see if she's available next weekend. It's too much of a pain in the butt to try to drive out there after work during the week. Maybe not a bob, but the temptation to do platinum sometime is tempting veganhothead. Though I don't think I could resist the temptation to toss a color on top and have a nice bright blue for a while all over. I told my parents about the idea to get a shaved design which they were dubious until I told them about the cool swoopy leaf designs and stuff. Mom thought if I did that, I should dye it green on the part with the design.

I did some baking yesterday. I made a gluten free lemon loaf using eggs and butter (and adding much more lemon flavor than the recipe called for) to give to Emily and her parents. For me, I made this recipe for vegan date nut loaf without fussing with any proportions. It turned out delicious but cutting up a cup and a half of sticky dates was a huge pain in the ass. I froze a little over half of the sliced loaf since not one bit is going to go to waste - and I am going to hoard most of it for myself after all that effort.

I think I may need to get a padded thing to stand on for the counter and sink areas in the kitchen. I have one at the stove but doing all that standing and prepping yesterday left my back achy last night. To stay healthy, I need to do plenty of food prep so I need to be comfortable. I also hit a snag already this week that I had a big container of soup I ordered from FreshDirect the week before and I didn't notice until this morning that it expired several days ago. It may be ok but I'm not comfortable eating it. Now I have to rethink my meals this week and do some prep tonight. Bah. Hm...the dumplings in the icon look good...wonder who might deliver decent veggie ones...

Ok, need to dig into work, despite the construction going on right below me. I can't miss deadlines.

The only thing about platinum is that it may show off the slight yellowish tinge to my skin. But hey, fun colors are another thing.

Coworker LOVED the bread. I hope she doesn't bake any more vegan stuff, though, because the "muffins" (and I use that word loosely) she made last week to share were horrible lol

I think you can combat that with a light dusting of green powder, if you wanted! ^_^

*LOL* @ the death muffins XD That sucks *lol*

Having a good pad to stand on is vital for both your back and your feet. Keep the faith and I love your mother's support! :D

Mom knows I go to the beat of my own drummer. That and I think secretly she'd get that done too if she were younger. Heh.

For some reason the pads seem to be stupidly expensive online. I think I'll check Target this weekend since they may have one that I can put under one of the carpet runners that's already in the kitchen

Are you close to an IKEA or a Home Depot? I think they have some there, too

I don't need much prodding to get to an IKEA. Heh. I haven't seen the thicker mats there but hey, I could tooootally check.

Oh DUH, forgot about Home Depot/Lowe's - what about this one?

That looks like a keeper to me. I should get one, too. Mine is about shot.

The pattern is cute and the price is SO much better than what I've seen

I need to get kitty litter and stuff in that area this Saturday so I'll have to swing by and get it. Sunday has the chance of a nasty winter storm which hey, if nothing else, I'll be inside prepping food, right?

Sounds like a plan to me!

Mmm, date loaf sounds YUM!

And blue would be awesome on you, as would shaving some design in.

I have one of those padded mats in my kitchen It's great but Peaches just picks away at it and I end up vacuuming up black bits every day. I wonder if they sell them made of things that don't attract cats...

It turned out incredible. Next time I buy dates, I'm buying the darned things already diced, though lol

The one padded mat in front of the stove thankfully gets left alone by the kitties. They go after the rest of the throw rugs but those don't bother me. Silly ol' Peaches.

Concerning potstickers: check out frozen ones (they might have them at Whole Foods or a local Oriental grocery.) You can make as many as you desire and put the rest in your freezer for later on.

A soup recipe that I sometimes make can be made vegan I think. It's for curried pumpkin soup (just use soy milk instead of regular milk, vegetable broth instead of chicken broth and oil instead of butter.) The recipe is on the Taste of Home site which is where I go if making it for any occasion.

I have some of these Thai Vegetable Gyoza from TJs in my freezer currently
https://eatingatjoes.com/2014/09/30/trader-joes-thai-vegetable-gyoza/

Since I had a big lunch, I just had a smoothie for dinner but I see dumplings in my near future!

Mmm, curried pumpkin soup sounds good. I was thinking about finding a way to veganize a recipe that I used to LOVE from the Morgan House in Dublin Ohio. This is the recipe
https://www.familycookbookproject.com/recipe/2610169/soup---a-la-morgan-house-soup.html

The distinctive flavors are from the curry and wine. It should be easy enough to do the creamy texture and a savory chicken-esque seasoning

Here's my favourite recipe for curried pumpkin soup from Taste of Home: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/curried-pumpkin-soup/

I make it every Thanksgiving, and it's worth it. You might want to add a bit more curry, though...
