We're getting our popcorn at the ready!

Friday was very interesting here at the ol' workplace. I'll get you up to speed. So, it was found out a few years ago that the central University wanted to boot our campus's communications and development offices out of a building they've been in for years so that they could take it over. The agreement evidently was that they would renovate space in our already old and packed administration building where I work to fit all of these extra people.

Then started the slow and annoying process of musical chairs. It also became a vanity project for the executive dean who decided that he wanted the first floor to become a big fancy pants area for academics who up until Friday was housed on the second floor. Also, he wanted communications and development to go on the first floor where our research admin offices were so we had to start packing up (and then when everything was packed, we had a flood from wonky radiators in my office but that's a previous story that I'll reference again). The business office was moved "temporarily" in late 2017 to a building a block away to start the renovation on the big space right when you enter the building.

Our wing was moved into two spaces a year ago here on the second floor. I shared and now still share an office suite with the two people that make up the Office of Grants Facilitation. Meanwhile, AA Julie, big whig Peggy and fluffy headed gal Anna moved into a "renovated" (note the quotes) space a little further down the hall. That "renovation" went oh so well because the AC in the ceiling flooded that office TWICE already and when they tried to clean the outside windows, they now don't shut right so they have FedEx boxes crammed in there. Boy they hire excellent people to do renovations, eh?

Oh and it amuses me that Michael the moron business guy was moved to some place up on the 3rd floor that I make a point of never visiting. We'll come back to that too.

Aaaaanyway, after most of a year of mostly non-activity except for being warned we couldn't come in over weekends due to asbestos remediation, all of a sudden they went into hyperdrive this month and on Friday, they moved the academic department downstairs to a space that looks nice but there were corners cut like shitty laminate flooring that's going to be ruined in no time flat and it looks like in our old space, they painted my old radiator but ten bucks says they never fixed it so it'll be so funny when it floods again.

We thought we'd have quite some time before they moved the budget office that's downstairs up to be in between our research spaces and the business office to the end of the hallway where the academic deans were. But strangely, the Budget office folks came upstairs on Friday and started pointing to where very minor carpet replacement was going to happen and where their people were going to go. Uh...already?

Seems that our budget office can't budget their way out of a paper bag and didn't look at the fine print that the HALF A MILLION DOLLARS they spent on furniture for the new fancy academic space was never agreed to by the central University. They wanted them to keep their old furniture (which hey, it's solid Steelcase stuff) and the budget office surplused (read, gave away) pretty much ALL of the furniture that was existing in the business office. So now there won't be ANY renovations done for the people moving upstairs. Which for the budget office is no big deal since there were some cosmetic renovations there a few years ago and the offices are MASSIVE. Seriously, you could park a semi in what's going to be the office of the head of the budget office.

Unfortunately, there haven't been any renovations done where the business office is going to be moving after languishing a block away for over a year. Uh oh! The head of the business office HATES the head of the budget office and the head of the budget office is going to be royally screwing over the business office with this move. Oh...and Michael was supposed to sit with the budget office people but they've decided not to give him an office so right now, he may still be stuck upstairs or they may try to shove him on the business office which is going to go over OH so well.

Since our suite of folks dislikes both of the heads of these offices, we're going to get out the popcorn, place our bets and watch the fur fly. It's going to be AWESOME!!

I love drama that doesn't directly involve me yet does involve people we dislike. It's delicious.
