Brain fluff

The back fared well yesterday. So much so that I was able to sleep part of last night in bed instead of the couch. Though for some reason today I'm all sleepy and somewhat congested. I blame winter for that.

Last night I made a faux egg salad using tofu and damn if it weren't amazingly close to the real deal. The touch of black salt to make it "eggy" helped a lot. It was the first time I used "raw" (yeah, I know it's really cooked) tofu which is another accomplishment since it's getting me over the tofu squickiness that many Americans have because we didn't grow up with it in our diets.

Work is frustrating but I'm trying not to let it get me stressed out. Bossman (Brad) is completely ignoring me which is making it nearly impossible to do large chunks of my job. Others say "but he's busy" but when you're talking MONTHS on some issues, it makes me wonder if he's doing to me what he's doing to Michael of "ignore her and she'll go away." But hey, fine. If I find something better and leave, you're fucked. In the meantime, my work neighbors Joe and Elaine have been talking to Brad (because he gives a shit about them) and let me know over the last month they've been bringing up the thing of restructuring our offices to merge and Joe would be my direct boss (Brad is Joe's boss). I would flipping love that because Joe would help me get shit DONE. So I told them to let me know what I can get for them information-wise to try to move this along. I even came up with a name for our merged offices which they LOVED. Crossing fingers to get that done. It'll take some months, though.

Oh good! I just asked you about the back somewhere else so go ahead and disregard that ^_^

I'm dead-ass tired, too. It IS largely the weather--and extensions of the weather! Like wearing huge coats, carrying heavy stuff in freezing conditions, being jacked up in general from the cold -_- SO DONE WITH IT C'MON SPRING.

Wonderful about the authentic 'egg' dish! You go!!

I hope your idea gets picked up 'cause I'm dying to know the name you thought of *lol* ^_^

I saw the comment just now - I got a little bit of sciatica last night and went "Time to lay down!" which if the kitties weren't so spastic last night, I would probably be less sleepy too. lol

Next thing I need to do is eat MOAR beans. I like them and I don't know why I haven't been making bean salads and such. I also made a YUMMY dish the other night of putting lentils in spaghetti sauce. They really are meaty in texture!

Well, since you don't know what our centers do, you may not be impressed but here's the skinny:
Our group of offices is generally the "Office of Research" which is what I refer to my sub-office. Ex-Bosslady is stubborn (quelle shock!) and keeps using the old title of "Office of Cooperative Research" which I find to be nonsensical since no one has a damned clue what "cooperative" stands for in the research context. The extension office upstairs is "cooperative extension" which makes sense because these are people out "cooperating" with the public out in communities where in our research groups...hahaha, not so much.

My "Office of Research" gets the yearly federal allotment from the US Department of Agriculture to run the research division of the "New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station" (NJAES) where Bossman Brad is the Director (Brad is also a faculty member in the School's Plant Biology department)

Joe and Elaine's office is currently the "Office of Grants Facilitation" and it belongs to both the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) and NJAES. What they do is help faculty - many times the same faculty that are on my dime - go for "external" grants and contracts. Federal and State funding, nonprofit funding, for-profit funding. They also help them comply with the central University's guidelines for putting their information into the electronic tracking system that they have. Joe is a PhD and the director of that office (which he gets little respect which sucks)

The thing that Joe and Elaine get concerned about now and then is that their office is too small with just the two of then and when the big Executive Dean (Bob) retires, they worry that the new Exec Dean may want to dissolve their office and have the departments be responsible for their own stuff.

However my stuff has been around since the late 1800s so my office obviously has to exist. By combining forces and having us as one office, it's unlikely that any new big-whig Exec Dean will try to break up the office. So it benefits them by making their office stronger and it benefits me because then Joe can make decisions and I don't have to wait for Brad to get done sitting with his thumb up his butt. Also, having Joe as director of a larger office will hopefully get him more respect that he deserves.

I also thought of some new projects/initiatives we can try to get going like a combined database which the other offices around here would love having organized numbers to brag about. Also, the University - and us by extension - got in trouble with the National Science Foundation for not having all the faculty with research and applicable students and staff compliant with the government's "Responsible Conduct of Research" testing which I can't roll it out all by myself. I need help.

Anyhoo...Elaine had suggested the "Office of Research Administration" which sounds good on the surface but has two issues. One - "administration" is a weak word. I never got a lick of respect even when I was the higher title of SENIOR Administrative Assistant. Two - we have an "Office of Research Analytics" so we'd have two offices with the same acronym.

My suggestion was the "Office of Research Compliance" (or alternatively the "Office of Research and Compliance") which makes us seem a LOT more important with the word "compliance" - that our office is responsible for keeping faculty in line with government and University requirements.

Also, the acronym "ORC" is kinda cool LOL

BEAN POWER!!!! I LOVE beans. BEANS! It's also a delightful word in general. ^_^
I was vegetarian (not vegan though) for almost three years and I would've DIED without beans/legumes *lol*.

Oh my gosh--ORC!!! That is the best ever XD

Seriously, that's all great, Diane ^_^ You honestly sound like you should be a boss or some type of leader there, if you aren't already?? I'm not super clear on the structuring of offices *lol*

My title is "Senior Program Administrator" which is code for "all the responsibility with none of the glory." I just had a chit chat with a faculty dude which I'm having his modify his proposal so that we can possibly give him some funding in a couple of months. It's something that Bossman should approve but fuck it, shit needs to get done so I'm moving it along.

That reminds me that I need to ask our regional folks if I'm actually the organization's Vice Chair. The Chair is such a lazy butthole that if I wasn't flying solo here, I'd stage a coup and take over as leader of the regional group.

Heh, I'd love us to be ORCs.

*LOL* @ "stage a coup"... XD

You would. ;)

I like your idea of ORC. Compliance is definitely needed. LOL

I hope that it will happen for you. It would be nice if you were in a position to have positive reinforcement at work.
Feb. 28th, 2019 05:05 pm (UTC)
Thanks. I'm crossing all crossables for it to happen this time. It benefits all of us and also, by having a combined group, we're hoping to restructure enough to get us a shared person to help us with data entry/processing, etc.

I will keep fingers crossed for good vibes !

So tonight for dinner I’m making a green curry fried rice that uses silken tofu. The tofu is blended with green curry paste and probably other stuff I don’t remember to make a sauce. If it turns out well I’ll let you know.

Here’s the recipe I made last night - https://www.rachaelraymag.com/recipe/green-curry-fried-rice

I liked it and truthfully no one would even know it had tofu in it. The only negative is it made for a lot of dishes to wash - my wok, 2 pots, the food processor, plus spoons, measuring cups and spoons, grater, peeler, and so on. I really love cooking but I really hate doing dishes. Also you probably have better shopping options than I do, but I had to go to 3 stores before I found one that sold green curry paste.

Holy smokes that looks good. Thanks for the recipe since I definitely might try it.

I'm sure they probably have that paste at Wegmans or one of the Asian grocery stores. I've not had green curry - is it milder?

Since I'm doing more cooking for myself with the vegan diet, I'm getting used to the ridiculous amount of food prep. Though when it comes to rice, I either get one of those microwave bags or I have an awesome microwave rice cooker.

Also...you used measuring cups and spoons. I tend to be a little more free-wheeling and eyeball it on these kind of recipes. If it were a baked item that needed structure, that's when I bother with measuring.

I made a fabulously easy mushroom soup/congee by cooking a bunch of chopped mushrooms in a little fake butter and some salt. Then I added some vegan chicken-flavor broth, pepper, one of those pre-cooked sushi rice bowls and a bunch of water and cooked until it was almost stew-like. I added silken tofu for the protein but it would have done just fine without.

Green curry is my favorite of the Thai style curries. It is not spicy. It tastes fresh. I can pull the lemongrass flavor out but not sure exactly what all makes it green.

I had to go back and look at the recipe because I definitely used a measuring cup and spoon. So the cup was for the rice/water for rice and the spoon was for the green curry paste but yeah you could just use a spoon and guesstimate it. I rarely measure things like vegetables but I still do for spices. I definitely like cooking over baking though since you don’t have to be exact.

Your mushroom soup sounds very comforting.

I hope you can get them merged! :-) *hugs*

Thanks, hon! I hope so too!

I'm amazed people are still squicky about tofu considering all that has been done with it in the 28 years I've been eating it. Especially the dubious nature of foods they wol down without question.

I know for most people - and me at first - it's the wobbly texture and the fact that it's bland and white. But once you get over that and find that it can transform so easily, it's goooood stuff.

Fingers crossed that the restructure at work happens.

Thanks! I told them this morning we should write a proposal.
