Nope on the bellydance for now

My back is doing better after the scare recently but it still has moments of soreness that make me go "Nope, lay down now" every now and then. Yesterday I got up from my office chair at work and took a step and my knee tried to go backwards. Fortunately, I caught myself before it did, however, it feels too loose since then for some reason. So that said, unless I want to be in traction after, no going to bellydance class tomorrow. I made a post about the back a while ago on FB so I'm absolving myself of the responsibility of checking to make sure that the teacher of the classes is sober.

Because I've been hoping to make some stuff like cashew cream and impromptu nut milks, I ordered one of those NutriBullet little blenders yesterday since it was on an awesome sale. It should be arriving in a few days. I'm also thinking I'll try to do the healthy smoothie thing for breakfasts with it. My security camera sent a screenshot of me this morning when it spotted "a person" and yow...I'm not looking healthy. Need to fix that stat. I'm not eating complete garbage but I'm clearly eating too much in general even though it's vegan. My back, knee and cardiovascular system aren't going to improve unless I buckle the eff down. If anyone has smoothie recipes that they are fond of, toss them my way.

I'm not fated to have a very interesting post for the glimpseatmyday challenge on Thursday. The trip to DC was cancelled so Emily and I were going to play hooky and go to the Met Museum and other places in NYC. But poor Emily had her teeth go south over the weekend and now has an emergency root canal scheduled for Thursday (they did a temporary patch and gave antibiotics yesterday so hopefully she's feeling better). I said if she doesn't want to hang out with the old folks then, I'll take the day off still and we can hang out and watch movies and such. She's up for that so it'll be a mundane photo post but I'll see if I run into anything interesting. Heh.

I'm sorry that your trip is off. That isn't fun, but teeth have to take precedence. I'm glad that you didn't hurt yourself. My knee is still wonky, too. It's so great getting old. Good luck with your battle. it's a tough one.

The knee is still so weird and loose. I feel like one of those dolls where the joints are held together with yarn.

I need to do some prone leg lifts or something to get the muscles around the knees built up safely

Or do step up exercises, stepping up onto a step and them back down. You can start with something thin (think phone book size) and go from there. Just make sure it's stable and that you have something to hold onto at first.

I'd do that but the "stepping down" is what's been dangerous as free-leg stepping down is the time when the knee tends to go whoopsie. I've been researching isometric exercises to try like the prone leg lifts, hamstring curls, calf raises and wall-supported squats.

For cardio, I'm thinking of doing stationary bike where my leg doesn't go totally straight and slow walking on a treadmill on an incline.

You need to listen to your body and do what's right for you. I have runner's knee and that's one of the things they recommended for me. It also helps me with our stairs.

I'm glad it's helping! Stairs can be scary at times.

The thing that's most disturbing to me is I don't generally have ANY pain in my knees (as opposed to my back that gives warning signals). It goes from fine to NOPE in seconds. I've been extremely fortunate so far as to be able to catch myself with the quick shooting pain before the knee goes completely out of place. Most times after several minutes the pain is gone. Sometimes if I've gotten too close to the danger zone, the knee will feel off for the rest of the day.

What it feels like right now is that it's weak and there's nothing holding things in place correctly. That one wrong step and it's going to flip backwards or something *shudder*

I had that happen when my back was so bad. It would just buckle for no reason. it wasn't fun. I hope yours is something else.

I keep meaning to get one of those bullet thingies, too. Let us know how you like it ^_^

I'm sorry you're still struggling despite the switch :( The catch-22 is nutritious eating needs to be paired with exercise for optimal results (as you/everyone obviously knows), but how are you supposed to exercise when it's painful/damaging because weight needs to be lost -_- I don't like the idea of you doing just portion control because you could actually end up starving yourself if you're not careful...and that's totally counterproductive. I wish I were more help here :\ When I did have weight to lose I did SlimFast (*lol*...I know...) and I was strict as hell with it and it did work. But everyone is different! I hope you find what works for you <3

I will do!

I did step on the scale this morning and it shows over the last month or so that I may have lost a couple of pounds. However for my size, although it's in the right direction for me, it can easily go right back up in a day or two.

I nibble WAY too much. I'm hoping by doing some healthy smoothies (going to also get some vegan protein powder a friend recommends) and taking them to work to nurse, at least during the morning, I won't find things to nibble or order lunch that's too big.

I've also been slacking the last couple of weeks when it comes to prepping food and I need to get back on track with that too. I'm getting too close to 50 and the older I get, the tougher it will continue to become to keep my health from declining quickly.

I'm hoping either tomorrow morning or one of the weekend mornings I can get to the gym and do some slow trudging uphill (actually better for the knee to put it on an incline) and/or some light weights

But nibbling is good! Unless you're nibbling on carb heavy things? I basically just graze 24/7 and that's why I can never ever sit down and actually eat a real meal *lol*

These smoothies, are we talking kale and green and chunky -_- Or pink and purple and pretty ^_^

Good luck at the gym! YOU CAN DOOO EEET

Constant nibbling is bad. I can go nearly through a large bag of popcorn if it's there. I need to pick up an extra bag of baby carrots to keep in my work fridge. That helped when I did that. That and I'll nibble and THEN still eat a meal.

LOL I'm getting the blender so nothing is "chunky." I've never actually tried a green smoothie. I figured it's worth a try. Though I'll probably make ones like banana with peanut butter powder and non dairy milk most or the pink and purple and pretty.

Carrots and cukes! That's my world ^_^

GOOD. Drinks should not be chunky o_O I look forward to seeing what you make ^_^

Aw hon. I'm so behind and I'm sorry about DC and your poor back. Things have been miserable for me too. In fact it seems everyone I know is feeling really down.

*gentle hugs*

As for smoothies, have you tried any of the vega powders? They provide mega nutrients. I like to blend it with a banana and whatever frozen fruit I have on hand. Lately Ive been adding chia seeds and a teaspoon of spirulina. They're tasty and substantial.

Back atcha with hugs!
I haven't tried them but a buddy in my FB vegan group said she really likes the Olly brand stuff (which I like that she said they use monkfruit instead of stevia). I did get a sample pack yesterday at WF of a Garden of Life one to try. It was the only sample I could find. I haven't done spirulina yet either.

Lately I've been so sleepy. I'm wondering if I need to go back to daily vitamin B instead of several days a week. It's a high dosage but maybe it's not sticking. Any other vitamins I might need for energy?

Re: Back atcha with hugs!
I don't know this Olly but I hear monkfruit is yum.

I'm extra sleepy too. So is my family and the friends I've talked to. It's a crummy winter that doesn't want to go away. But it can't stay forever.
